Mirror polished steel, plywood, mild steel
180cm h x 80cm w x 50 cm d
Jar Figure was made for a group exhibition at Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park in Cornwall, which looks over the River Tamar to Plymouth on the far bank.
A porcelain lidded jar in the Mount Edgcumbe collection caught Tom Bennett’s attention. It was made in about 1770 at the Plymouth Porcelain Factory, just across the water.
The shape of the jar is reminiscent of a human figure and it gave Tom the idea for this sculpture.
The sculpture’s surface reflects and distorts the landscape and everything that happens in front of it, shifting and changing with the weather and the light.
