Artist’s statement: I ‘live’ near the sea in Cornwall. I am a student at AUP in Plymouth. My partner and her daughter live in mid Wales (167 miles as the crow flies from where I ‘live’, but a five hour drive). Some mornings I wake up thinking I am in one place but I am in another.

My mother lives alone in London and has dementia.

In Plymouth I stay in a friend’s flat on the top floor of a 12 storey block of flats. I talk to people in the lift. One man has lived there for 50 years. In the 1980s he used to box, but he was 25 then. Another man has lived there for 25 years and told me he had expected to live there for the rest of his life.

In two years, the block of flats will be demolished.
